Delux Dryer, Take Two
SOUTHERN PLAINS STICKS WITH TRIED AND TRUE MODEL AFTER TORNADO

After Southern Plains Cooperative’s grain elevator at Greensburg, KS was largely destroyed by a tornado May 4, 2007, it didn’t take much thought on selecting a replacement dryer, says Superintendent Alan Allison.
The Delux DPX4T Series dryer from Delux Mfg. Co., Kearney, NE (800-658-3240), installed early in 2008, was the identical model to the older one that was installed six or seven years earlier and lost in the storm. The natural gas-fired dryer is rated to remove five points of moisture from corn at 1,500 bph.
“Both the old and the new dryers have been trouble-free and easy to clean,” says Allison, who has been at the Greensburg elevator for 27 years. “I can’t praise it enough.”
Updated Electronics
Allison adds that he did notice on the
2008 dryer that the electronic controls
have been updated from the older model. “Everything is digital now,
and the
controls allow for closer supervision of the drying temperature and provides
moisure control,” he says.
The dryer utilizes vacuum cooling,
which recirculates heat from cooling
corn and provides quiet operation for
an in-town setting.
